Awesome build! Truly great! The tank, the sump, the fishes, everything is just fantastic!

Such a shame that's acrylic ain't too usual here in Sweden, I can't recalling to have seen a single one in any forum. :(

Maybe I should start googling a little more intense, because now I def want an acrylic tank! :headbang2
Seems to be a common European thing. Same here in Germany at least.

Great work btw Joey! ;)

i've recently been looking through DIY projects and man this is great! Love it! and i really wanna make one of my own. if i do, ill definatly be posting it up =)

oh and by the way, that solution you were using in the video, did you put it on the outside of the tank when you put it together, or on the inside, or both? i wanted to know if it is safe to use on the inside, once the water and fish are inside, and also if it would be better to use it out and inside just to make sure i wouldnt leave any cracks in the edges.

Thanks!

I believe the solution you are reffering to is the water thin weld-on 4.

The way that stuff works is, once your panels are together and taped in position, you run the needle along the inside edges. The weld-on gets "sucked" inbetween the panels.. known as capillary action.

Once the weld-on is in between the panels, it starts to react with the acrylic by softening them. Once the panel edges are softened and begin to fuse together, then the weld on evaporates. Withion a few minutes, the panels harden together to make "one" piece.

There is now need to do the outside and inside, doing the inside is good enough. The cement is sucked into the entire seam.

So since the cement evaporates, there is nothing that will harm your fish.

Thanks for the info, that is actually what i was trying to ask =)
do you have to order weld-on 4 online? or can you find it in a store?

Plastics store like Tap Plastic will carry weld-on stuff you can also order it.

Hey Joey, did you use the pin method when doing this or just but them together and welded it? I've heard that you need to seperate them with pins first to get more solvent in there to make it water tight.

However you did it, it seems to helod water perfect. ANd the joints look clean

one more question lol, i saw that in the video you used the torch to make the side of the acrylic smooth and stuff, did you do it before putting the pieces together with weld on? or is it ok to just do it without smoothing it out first and just put it together with weld on.

You want to flame polish very last. Flame polishing adds stress to the acrylic which you don't want on the joint until after they cure.

Since you are melting the two pieces together with the solvent this is what creats the clear edge.
