Large acrylic tank build... Pic intence

Question for you - in that video where you are doing the welding, you only run a thin bead on the inside joint and it welds the two panels together to be strong enough? Just doesn't seem like enough liquid to make such a strong bond.
 
The torch work was interesting. What do you think about taking small scratches out with a torch?

LOL I agree. I've done this before and the liquid is so thin it just gets sucked between both pieces.

I always wondered after the initial glue dries do you go back with the thicker stuff and apply another bead to both sides?

I thought the same thing when i first seen it done... the small bead is not running along the edge and staying there like silicone does... it actually gets sucked into the joint between the acrylic and fuses the entire piece to the other.. Refered to as capillary welding. The cement actually softens each piece of acrylic, then the cement evaporates... when the acrylic hardens again, they are fused together.... Much stronger seal than a glass/silicone seam.

Takes out small scratches as well... But takes practice... Novus would be a better option if you dont have anything to practice on....

See above responce to read how it works....

I did actually run the thicker weld-on along the inside seams to fill any pin holes that might have still been there... ran it along the seams just like you would with silicone... The first test fill was the last.... no leaks.

thanks for the detailed answer, I figured that was the case. Cool that it could be clamped and still work like that.

great looking tank, btw. You've definitely given me something else to think about if and hopefully when I can build a monster tank.

I'm also so some search on how to build something like this ...
What I have in mine are an 8L x 4W x 2Tall
1/2" all around...
My concerned is the top braces...

Will 2 each 6"x96" for front and back, 4 each 6"x47" = 1 for each end and 2 mid way in the middle. In another word, i will have 6" brace all around the top plus 2 6"x47" pieces running from front to back space out in the middle of the tank. Will it be enough? I just don't want to get another 8x4 if i don't have to. I'm trying to work with 3 pieces of 8x4x.5 . This will be around $1500 for the tank or $3 per gal. :)
