Large Aquarium Sump Ideas??

I was thinking more along the lines of eliminating the sump alltogether and running bead filters exclusively so that you don't have the hassle of washing socks.

Oh got it. Im a huge fan of sumps so I was figuring you meant keep it but if you did it right I dont see why bead filters wouldnt work. If you ran a few of them you could stagger cleaning if mini cycles are actually a concern

I would do a separate sump for each over flow. Double the media and you're still using one pump. I think two 75gallons could work nicely.

Having two sumps is a PITA. I have two 55's on my 450 and I would never recommend that to anyone but a Mod

Just throwing this out there as something to consider...Ultima II 1000s have a 14" diameter footprint and are 25" tall, so running a few of these should take up about the same space as a 75-100G sump.

I saw a 380G tank for sale on craigslist a few years back and the only filtration was an Ultima II 1000...kinda wish I had spoken to the guy to see if he was happy with that setup.
