large cichlid in planted tank

Great picture by the way, mine would always tear up any that I tried. I had a butti that tore up everything that I put in there, including filters and heaters.

To fix the issue I went to gravel and a huge plant she can't mess with too much.View attachment 1314093

I prefer lots of current, and the vallisneria needs to be trimmed regularly

Lots of SA species do just fine with plants. Better than CA or african in my experience. Though I always keep plants in pretty much every tank I do, if the fish eat plants then I just use anubias, java fern, and cryptocoryne, tied to wood.

I was thinking so thin like this, it was posted on here but I can't find where. The plants I have so far are 2-3ft jungle vals, 2 swords, dwarf sag and a lot of salvinia. The guy that I got them from said his cichlids didn't bother the vals. Someone on eBay has a grab bag of 10 cichlids for $70, free shipping. I was thinking about that since at least half of them I really want.
