Large Fish With Personality?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Any one know if Midas Cidhlid, Red Tail Catfish, Silver Arowana, Fire Eel, Red Eared Slider, Congo Bichir can all be kept together in an EXTREMELY large tank?

My pacu are gentle, jovial giants, who are very interested in the world outside their tank. It seems that if they could, they would join us outside of their tank. Their behavior is very dog-like, pushing each other out the way to be petted, chasing each other and jostling for food. Sometimes my husband will pick up our very jealous cat and rock her saying "Pacu Kitten goes swim swim swim. Pacu Kitten goes swim swim swim", as he walks in front of the tank. The pacu follow along, back and forth, back and forth.... the four of them forming a parade inside and outside of the tank.

After eating, Leonardo gets rambunctious and pretends he is a herding dog. He used to "herd" all the other fish into one corner of the tank. Now, he only has Adonis to "herd" into a corner. My pacu are extremely interactive fish with great big personalities. Here's an old feeding video where the rascal Leonardo tries to get his brothers potato "chip" while ignoring his own. He is my big rascal.

my oscar and jack dempsey are both awesome fish. oscars get quite large, but not so large that you have to refinance your home to keep them.

if money isn't an issue, than you can look into pacu or a RTC.

If you really want a fish that has a good personality you need to raise a Dovii from a scraggler. They really get close to their owner, but at the same time they are your personal guard dogs. People come bye that he didnt know he would try to splash them, and attack through the tank. he would follow me endlessly trying to see what im doing.

Giant Gouramis have to be on the list. Big fish, lots of personality, and a beautifully "ugly" mug.

Really depends on the size of the tank as for what I can recommend....but a Midas or Red Devil are two that are very personal towards their owner. Alot of veija are that way and truthfully most fish are lol.

I would say jack Dempseys, I had a EBJD (past away 2 weeks ago) whom would do a wiggle dance during feeding time, I could hand feed him and put my hand in the tank and he would rub against my fingers like a cat! His girlfriend whom is a regular jack dempsey is on the shy side, went into hiding after the EBJD died but now she is starting to do the wiggle dance!
The EBJD would not do this with anyone else but me even if others offered him food.
