Large mouth

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ah, largemouth, Mine looked just like that when i first got him and they start to lose the coloration. Dark now, later he will be "whiter" due to the water being so clear, and not enough darkness. I have found when the lights are off (1am) he will turn dark again. Mine is not going fast, hes in a 75 still. Have not got my 150 yet.

My bass is on pellets, for the first month i was feeding him plump minnows, For about a week he would not eat, I have found out that if you are going to get 2 get in now or he will kill it off.Ok i have also found out that if you feed him ghost shrimp they cant resist them, he should take them the 2nd day. Now the hard part, heres how i did it to my bass always kept food in his tank for a month, I let him kill them off (eating them) then i gave him different choices tialpia was one crawdads. Then i fed him once in a while dropping shrimp pellets in there would eat them but spit them back out. Then one day he killed my 5in tialpia and then started to eat pellets. Now he eats from the top to. Start with sinking pellets.

I would feed him live stuff till he get settled in, and use to be in a smaller space. I can take pics later. I have a armored cat in there hasnt killed it yet. My poor tialpia was growing strong out smarted my bass for 2 months. He was only 1in when i put him in there. Made a hole in the sand under my aerorater thingy lived there 2 months then got balls and started swimming around all the time. Bass was hungry tried to eat it but was unsucessful. Killed it though. I think my tilpia taught my bass to eat pellets :)
Be prepared only have 1 fish in that 150. Bass are very mean.Good luck let me know hows he is doing.

Sorry about my long story, Im at work and bored

well it's been two days now and he hasn't eaten anything yet... I threw in some frozen krill and bloodworms... both he ignored.... I think he's still really shocked about being in a tank and the temperature being a lot different then it was when he was in the lake. I won't bother feeding him tomorrow and I'll wait till Friday to try some minnows. I think I need to feed him minnows until he gets comfortable. Would that be right????? once minnows are gone then I can start feeding other things. Is it better to go to a game shop to get minnows or would guppies or something be even better???

You can feed him some minnows at first it's not like that is going to be hurting any training....because he hasnt had any yet. So next question, I have always heard that bait store minnows are the best. I always use rosie reds from the pet store but I quarantine them. Best way to do it is to get a big rubbermaid bin and throw a big filter on it then throw in about 100 or 200 rosies add some salt and go about your business and feed them when needed. That is how I do it atleast.

Try Ghost Shrimp 10 for 1.00, here anyways he should eat them up, thats how i started my bass, Caught another wouldnt touch minnows bt gulped down shrimp (live). Up to you. Just try you'll see.

Nah... It really isnt that hard. To tell you the truth your bass was the only one that I ever heard of that DIDNT take prepared foods. That was the first thing mine did when I dropped him into the tank.

I have a LM bass also who is a little bigger than yours. Though i havent experienced this "fastness" of growing, though, and he NEVER stops eating. I have had him for about 2 and a 1/2 months now and he has gotten a little fatter and like 1 inch bigger.

The cool thing about them is once they start to associatte you with food they are the FIRST to greet you at the tank. When i walk in the room he will usually be next to some wood and will imeddiatly JET to the top of the water and watch me walk up to him almost wagging his tail at me.

I personally would begin by throwing a couple of feeders to see if he even has acclimatted b/c they are a natural prey, VERY stimulating, and with a wild caught fish you dont have to worry about the diseases AS much.
After a while when he starts waiting for food which bass sort of do once they learn about their owners they will eat ANYTHING u throw in there. I have dipped earthworms in and b4 i can let go he grabs it from me. I have thrown chicken in and he takes it. Now hes eating krill and shrimp. He doesnt even let it sink b/c it basically just falls into his mouth. Ill post a vid actually.
