Large Tank Filtration

Family issues are taking up a lot of my time right now, and I'm having trouble getting the backgrounds ready for the artist to paint. Ran into some problems applying the Polygem to the foam, but it can be fixed. (We weren't careful putting it on and laying the pieces flat, so ended with some distortion and warping that has to be corrected).

Here's a little of what I've been doing when I can. These are the right side 3D background panels. (two pieces because the sheets have to fit through the tank openings)


Working with Pond Foam is incredibly messy. The Polygem is not easy to mix either. Just very messy tedious work.







The left side panels. The trees have to be finished, and epoxy applied to all pink areas. At that point, it will be ready for the artist to paint the backgrounds on the side panels.




The background the artist will be painting



Meanwhile, the eleven uptake and return pipes are just lying around. The artist likes how they look, so instead of painting them a different color, we may just paint them with clear epoxy paint. The black connectors in the "knots" are just there to keep the threads clean. The return nozzles will fit in the knots.


If I can't get this done, I may have to hire someone to help me.

Keep it up...awesome work on those tree's and the background.
I'd hire you in a heart-beat to make some for me.
Hats off for you being so patient and not hurrying things through.

When I look at the sketch that your artist made, I'm wondering if there's too much color that would drown out your 2 Pacu?

Personally, I think that your trees are almost picture perfect bark, which I'd make the focus of the background.
With that in mind, I'd go with a more 'quiet' background. Something like blue/white, like a foggy, misty bark forest early morning where the sun is just starting to light things up.
Something like this:



It would also combine very well with your decoration of the the room, the tank itself..

(I realise that it's a matter of taste of course, just crossed my mind and thought I let you know)..

Luc,
I understand where you're coming from. Here's the first sketch the artist did based on some pictures we gave her. The larger "trees" in the front will be our plumbing pipes. We want the look of an underwater forest in an endless lake.



Unfortunately, the river behind our house and the lake we love to play in influenced the color choice. We wanted to bring our river and our favorite lake into our house




There will be less greenery than shown in the first picture, since the biggest trees are the pipes.


This is going on the floor of the tank



If we ever get the tank set up, it will be undecorated, but not exactly bare.

Hello Pacu Mom, i'm not worried if the tank gets set up...It's only a matter of when..sure about that.

Understand for the background. Hope she goes easy on the red and brown...but given your trees and the color of them, I'm pretty sure, as a good artist, she'll adjust to make them come out even better.
Very curious to see the result.

I bet it is stressful! Cant imagine planning and setting up a build that long... As a very impatient person also, I would be ripping my hair out by now. However this build is epic and hats off to you. definitely subscribed
