I believe all wild fish in ca is illegal to keep and transport between different bodies of water. Id be careful of who you discus this with, Ive heard of ppl getting raided by Fish and Game and its Expensive fine. Just get a 180g+ tank and you will be fine, they grow real fast.

Your getting some bad advice in this thread...NEVER EVER release a fish into the wild. Not only is that illegal almost everywhere, that is a great way to spread exotic diseases/parasites into the local ecosystem. Especially since you have been feeding it feeder fish (they are common carriers of many ailments).

In California, it is illegal to remove any fish from the wild alive, so technically you broke the law by keeping that bass. I would be more careful about posting illegal activities on here, several forum members have gotten in trouble with the law for just that.

If the "pond" is on his property tho its not taken from the "wild" or releasing into the "wild"

The pond isn't man made (?) nor does he technically own it. If its not man made they are there because of nature, and that means they are wild fish. Good luck trying to explain that to the feds.

But as one member stated you could get a small pop-up pool around 400-600 gallons and be able to keep the bass for life. The set-ups are fairly cheap and you could add another bass or two and then catch small bluegill from the pond and use them as feeders for the bass when they get larger. Problem of the bluegill stunting by using them as feeders haha
