Largemouth help...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would go w/ something at least 24" wide, and probably 8 feet long. With that you will also have room for maybe some sunfish or a bullhead catfish. The bass will need that much width so it can turn around once it get bigger.

yeah I was thinking of doing something kitty cornered so he would have even more room in the middle. 8Ft seems like a good length. He is gonna be one happy fish!!!:grinno:

Even a 14lbs northern lm is rare. I wouldnt expect it to gorw more than 8lbs in an aquarium, with a length of about 24." Any lm over 10lbs is considered a trophy by most fishermen, and in states w/ the northern strain, a 5 pounder is a trophy.

Yeah, I know that. I figure he might as well be prepared for the possability that his fish could get that large. If he has more space than needed he can always add tankmates. The reason throphy sized fish aren't common in the wild is because people keep them before they reach that size, a fish that can reach that size without being being caught is a lucky fish. In aquaria fish often live longer than they would in the wild and grow larger, add that to the year-round warmer water and you could have a very large basss.

 "he" is actually a "she" :D and I would agree fish live longer if you keep them as pets. I have had my sunfish for almost 5 years now and my bluegill I raised up from a 2 incher for about 3. If you saw where I got them from you wouldnt want to take them back either:( . But nonetheless, I think baby is gonna get large anyway you look at it. Therefore, I'm going to go all out and get him the tank made. I dont think I will get him some tank mates as he prefers to be alone. He is very jealous over his tank. I tried that already and he headbutts any fish that comes to close to his "spot" lol.

Im going to have one made, an acrylic one on a metal stand. Its going to be cornered so it would be more like 8x3x5. And I'm going to have lights hung over it so I can plant it with plants and lilypads.

;) yeah you were! That was actually the dimensions I was going to go with at first but I would rather have it cornered so its more room.
