Well to be honest my biggest fish is a Red Bellied Pacu (14 inches)but my pride and joy is my Dovii(3+ inches)They are not in the same tank of course.

I really like Red Bellied Pacu (Colossoma brachypomum) and have 4 myself they are all in the 30+" range. I also like Colossoma macropomum (I had 2) and Colossoma oculus ( I only ever had 1). I unfortunatly lost all three of these in 2004.

best of luck with yours and your dovi

future monster: cichla monoculus 3 inches... he's grown an inch in 2 weeks. This is my only monster. pathetic

Arapaimag, shouldnt Trimacs be put on this list?Or is this and the Emporer the same fish??

I apologize I don't know the common names for all cichlids. Could you please tell me the scientific name of the one you are mentioning. Thanks

I'm sorry,i'm not that good with the scientific stuff, but i do know they look very much like a Flowerhorn,as a matter of fact i believe that is where Flowerhorns originated from, and as i understand Trimacs can get Very Large, anyone out there know how big a Trimac can get??

Wonderful dovii pictures Arapaimag and mAri. Those are some impressive fish to be proud of.

My largest dovii is a little 8" female that I bought 10 months ago when she was about 2". She has a little 5" male dovii that keeps her company. They are in one of my 40 breeders and will get bumped up to 75 in about a month. I will eventually get a 180 for them in the future.
I have four other dovii in the 4 to 5 inch range in tanks I have at work. I know these guys are small, but hopefully they will eventually grow to monster sizes.

I had a Cichla monoculus last summer. A little guy that I picked up at around 5". I had him for about 5 weeks when he passed away at about 6.5" after picking up something evil from minnows I fed him. I eventually would love to get another peacock bass if I can find some free tank space somewhere.

Best of luck raising your Dovi. As they get larger tanks they will increase in size..... fast. I breed my own minnows (rosy yellows), guppies & goldfish. so there is no chance of picking up any disease. If you don't have the space you might try frozen smelt. No disease and more weight for the dollar. Also they can be thawed out as you need. No waste. They Don't tie up tank space.

I currently have a 15 inch Red Devil.....yes, he's really that big...a 17 inch butter and have alot of smaller umbies...right now...the butter's the biggest..the red devil the meanest

Congrats both of your monsters are near the biggest they can get. It's a tribute to you that they are max.

Now you can see why I set this up for the 4 biggest cichlids in the hobby all of which max at 24inches and bigger.

Good luck raising your umbies to monster size. The biggest I ever saw was at an ACA about 11 years ago. It was over 22" for sure.

I've got a long way to go with mine who is in the 8-9 inch range now.

Please post pics of your red devil and butter. My breeding pair of butters are 16-18" and you can see them in the article section with new pics of my 15k.
