Ok wait, maybe a more focused read I get it. They show air and water depths with a certain lightbulb and the corresponding PAR reading of low to high light?
Air and water has little to do with it. It's simple, PAR is based on the distance the light fixture is to the bottom of the tank. Air and water space has little effect on PAR.

So pretty much I need my lights closer to the water line to penetrate the 22 inches down to the roots?

Is there any specific light I can buy if I'm sick of this CFL business? haha.

If using co2, 2x t5ho bulbs should do the trick. You can still try T5HO, but run one bulb, and place it as high as possible. I'm pretty sure those lights are just fine for your swords though. Like I said, they don't require a lot of light.

I would like to remove the glass tops completely though. They're a hassle. I could mount the T5s is my canopy. It's a 12" canopy.

I don't really think the CO2 is really required here. What kind of look are you going for? Do you want a jungle look or a few plants here and there?

You need the CO2 then. I don't know if you mentioned this, but do you add fertilizers? I also think you need better light. Those few CFL bulbs will not cut it.

I think I'm just going to go the t5 route. Or some sort of commercial plant light. This canopy is giving me a huge headache.
