last w/d / bulkhead questions "i hope"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Personally I would go with one inch.. But with a pump that size you could go with 1/2:ROFL:

Seriously though one inch would be great.. especially for upgrade purposes ..

If your worried about drilling the tank and placement of the bulkhead, you can just buy or build an overflow box.

and overflows are more work :D

Once an overflow is primed and going, thats pretty much it, even after the power goes out, its still has its siphon.

i think this is the last few things i need answered. lol

i will go with 1" bulks.

my pump has 3/4 outlet, will it work ok with a 1" bulk?" thats why i was thinking 3/4 bulks."
if it will work, should i go from 3/4 to 1" tube by the pump or the bulk?
"more 3/4" tube or more 1" for return" "will be using 1" tube for overflow"

and to figure out where to put them,
way i think...
fill tank to max water level,
then drain water out into the sump,
fill sump to max level.
then where ever the water line in the tank is at that point,
thats where to put the bulks.
sound right?

thanks in advance

your plan on placement sounds good.

The reason that I would use a bigger overflow is that the pump can get away with a smaller line-----it's pressurized.

The overflows are gravity. Again, your overflows will not flow more than your pump can handle. They are literally overflowing, not siphoning. You're better to have overkill on the overflow side for a couple of reasons: 1, if one gets plugged by a dead fish, you need to make sure the other can keep up. 2, they have to flow more (or the exact same) than the pump so your pumd doesnt run dry. 3, upgrade!

Look at it this way. They HAVE to flow what the pump can return into the tank, and they will ONLY flow that much.

EXACTLY:D

You dont need valves on your overflows (other than to shut them off)

As long as your overflows will flow more than your pump, you're fine.

Exactly, they over flow what the pump pumps up, so if the pump is smaller, less water will be pumped up to the tank and less water will overflow!
