I try to memorise the Latin names when I study a new fish. I know well over 60 Latin names but I can't list them all when I try to remember them. Only when I need to use them, do I remember. Funny how the brain works like that.

Honestly, I use latin names more than I do common names. I do spend half of my day reading books about fish though, so I guess that's okay.

with plecos common names don't cut it... always made a point on knowing the latin names for most animals really. There can never be a mix up when you know the latin name! Bet out of the however many I know though... I can't pronounce half of them, only know how to spell them.

That's alright. The ICZN guidelines lead to some pronounciations I'm fairly certain Cicero would have trouble with!

i know too many to count off the top of my head. i probably know around 50-80 names. but many more common names than scientific names
