Latin names for fish

It's funny you bring this up as I was thinking about how much of a fish dork I am for knowing 50+ off the top of my head. Then I started thinking about how many MFK members usernames I knew. That was worse than knowing the latin names. I only know three or four mfk'ers personally but I could rattle of a ton of username's.

Question is other than fish boards, when do you really use latin names?

Only other time I can think up is when you order fish online...

Have you been to Ocean Aquarium in SF? They use latin names to label their livestocks over there. It's the only LFS that I know of that uses them instead of common names.

I have genuine problems with common names since they vary from hobbyist to hobbyist and vendor to vendor. I've been using the generic names since my father started me off on them when I was 7 or 8 years old.

I know more latin names then common...I'm a latin freak. On other forums I go by Neopiscis. 8)
