Leaking tank help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oky thanx guys I will be re-sealing the whole tank.

Should I remove all the silicone at once, in other words building tank from 5 clean panes ?
Or can I leave some of it on and remove it as I go, that way maintaining and holding the shape as I re-seal ?

Oky thnx all. Watched the movie, I get it now, only remove inside layer.

The one thing I am worried about though is that the long side pain is held together only by the two shorter sides. It doesn't rest on the bottom because of wrong pane sizes, as I got the tank from other family for free

Is that the area where the leaks are located? If not, just leave the bottom old silicone in place along that edge. You could always post a picture of that area if you want a better evaluation.

Yeah, I think a picture here would be a very good idea. Without one, I'm not sure what to think of that...

OK so heres the a photo of the tank and the long side pane that doesn't rest on the bottom glass. As you can see with the razor theres a small gap.
I've already removed all the inside silicone.
I'm thinking I should turn the tank on it's side with the long side pane at the top, that way i can put silicone on the outside under that pane so that it has some support.
Any thoughts ?

The closeup of the mismatched glass is a bit too close up for me. Is that a view of the bottom of the tank corner?

How thick is the short side pane and the too long side pane of glass?

Adding silicone to the bottom edge won't provide the proper support.

I'd say you found a decent portion of your problem in that pane of glass not matching up. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that's a picture of the corner of the tank from the side. If so, my advice would be to keep doing what you're doing with that razor blade and go ahead and take the tank completely apart. From there, just clean it up with the razor and some acetone, then put it all back together and reseal everything at once. Use some tape to edge where the silicone will be applied to make it look more professional. Use some duct tape on each corner or some large c-clamps to hold the panes vertical and aligned properly with each other. Once you've applied silicone to the joins in between the glass, then do the inside seams. Let cure for about 3 days and water test.

it would be better to let that piece of glass to set all the way down even with the bottom and brace from the inside. Leaving it in this position is a blow out waiting to happen. Of course the absolute best would be to have a properly cut piece that fits inside and resting on the bottom.
