Oh wow. That looks awesome. Is the glossostigma high maintenence? Or does it stay fairly low growing?

It seems to want to spread out with runners right now. I will have to trim it down a bit, when it fills in all the available space on the substrate. I going to try to limit it's vertical growth to around 2", to keep it healthy.

Here's the thread that started it all for me.

But whenever I see your photos, I am reminded that I realllllly want to do this project.

Yeah, That thread pretty much made my mind up too. I spent countless hours pouring over those threads, before I finally "pulled the trigger" on my project.

Now I can hardly wait to do the next one! Problem is- I already used the " Yeah , I know It may seem expensive now, but it will pay for itself many times over in the future" argument with my wife. Maybe I'll try the " But they were on sale" line next.:nilly:

Dam. and how the HELL did u get you java fern so HUUUUUGGGGGEEEEEE?

It took about five years to get that big. I would cut the leaves off every year or so, to clear out dead leaves, and it would eventually grow back with larger leaves. I miss them now, as I used to have another 2 the same size.

It is my dream to get mine that big. For the 5yrs what lighting were they exposed to, co2, or ferts used?

My tank is a 225 ( 72"x30"x24" ) I Had 6 x 130 watt power compacts on it before the switch to LEDs. I dosed the tank twice a week with FLOURISH MICRO and added enough FLOURISH NITROGEN to maintain nitrates @ 20ppm minimum. The tank also has Carbon Dioxide injection tied to a Ph controller. I normally adjust the Ph controller to provide a .5 drop when the lights come on, the morning after a major water change. This is done to compensate for any changes in the baseline Ph level after the water change.

Good luck with your ferns- give them good growing conditions, some time and they'll get HUGE.

However, if not simply for all the old system, but considering using LED flood lights. There some important things you should consider. They need some elementary things, such as sufficient light and carbon dioxide nutrients. Also essential if you're having trouble finding what you really want at the local level, so now there are many places online where you can buy items .
