So in pa (where I live) the fish commission says you can't sell any native species. That's a bummer since I'd have loved to breed bluegills and pumpkinseeds and sell that at my local fish club auction but rules are rules. However, does anyone know if it would be legal for me to breed and sell species such as dollar or spotted sunfish since they're still us native just not pa? I was thinking about setting up a tank around 30 gallons or so to try and breed dollar sunfish but I'd like to be able to sell the fry otherwise I'll scrap the idea.

I am interested in these replies. I know that we have had discussions on keeping native endangered species and that is illegal, however, I would think that this should be OK? Including keeping these species in an aquarium.

Perfect, hopefully I can setup a breeding tank in the fall for some either dollar, spotted, longear, or bantam sunnies :)

Er, not longears, forgot they were in pa for a minute since nobody ever catches or sees them where I live yet apparently they're here.

Can't you get a commercial breeding permit? Most states will issue you one and it lets you sell the fish you breed as well...

Id imagine that'd be a long process to get and cost a nice chunk of money but I'm not sure. If I can I'd get one in a heartbeat but I don't think even if I could get one that they'd give one to a teenager who wants to breed them for tanks and not to sell for ponds. If they did I'd get a permit to keep fish banned by the lacy act and I could own Clarias cats and snakeheads :)

Highly unlikely that they will issue a permit to let you keeping federally banned fish species.
