how big do these catfish get ?? i should be getting 1 soon when tsn grow n aro dose :D

They average about 2 feet, but can get larger than that. From what I've read, it seems the max size caps out around 27" or so.

ya i just picked up a 2" the other day and he is a pig, hope he grows fast so i can move him from the grow out tank

are these guys shy at all? And would they go well with an aro, pike cichlid and a bichir (and maybe a ck later)?

Nice pick up!!

Oh, you won't have any issues with that growth rate...;)

My guy isn't really shy, but he's a catfish so I wouldn't expect him to be out all day in the open. Mine has actually claimed a new spot in the middle of a large piece of driftwood so I can see him a lot more.

As far as tankmates...they are very peaceful cats for their size. Any fish that is larger than their mouth should be fine. I'm not sure about a pike because of their slender body shape, but I've had a lapridae bichir in there with him for over a year and they have been fine.

Aros would be great tankmates. I have a black and a silver aro with mine and it definitely makes a stunning display.

Hmmmm...I never saw that pic.

After seeing that, I say it's 100% L. longibarbis...and the search continues...:nilly:
Very interesting read. I really want one, but I can't keep anything that will get to 3' pretty quickly, which is why I wanted a perruno that supposedly would only get 2'. I'm going to get a 300 gal when I get a house (I'm looking right now), so I think that should do for quite a while.

Nice Marbled Pim,yeah they do grow quick!!I got mine at 2 inches 2 monthes ago he has already grown to over 6 inches.Very aggressive eater,he has put my RTC/TSN to shame growth wise!!!

Depending on what you're defining as "quickly", you may be able to get away with one in a smaller tank for a while.

Mine shot to about the 15"-17" range very quickly, but has really slowed down since then. I think Rallysman had the same experience. I thought he mentioned (in this thread) that his shot to about 17" and then slowed drastically too.

Thanks!! Mine has done the same. My RTCxTSN is growing at an impressive rate, but so far my marbled pim has out girthed him...he's not nearly as tenacious as the RTCxTSN though, I can tell you that much.

I just thought I would give you guys an update on my L. longibarbis. I've had this guy for about 8 months now, and WOW, what a growth rate on this guy. He seems to be slowing down now that he's getting close to the 15" mark.

He's been on a varied diet of market shrimp, Hikari pellets, haddock/pollock fillet, clams, shiners (limited), and the occasional small child. :D

The first pic is a few days after I bought him...the next pics are from last weekend. I also got the shots when he was near the same rock that is in the first pic just to show how big he got.
