hey thanks a lot demjor. i used to have issues in the past with my GG chasing my silvers around, but i have that buttikoferi in there also and a pacu and peacock bass and them 4 are bickering machines. they don't bother the silvers one bit now and haven't for over a year. but as the GG aged, he really doesn't bother anything at all now. he does have a special area i consider to be his, and when other fish try to hang out, he trys to push them out.

and for the Lei, they are Entirely different then the jars. im not to sure who said they were the same, or close to being the same, but in my opinion from a baby size all the way to adult, ive seen almost no similiarities. its kinda like comparing a jar to an asian, or a lei to an asian. they are so different in so many ways. bull fu man chu's on jars are stubbby and slightly outish, lei's are like upside down bull horns that point away like a mustach. body's on jars are tall n fat, lei's are beefy yet slender and have a elongated shape compared to the jar's short stubby shape. colors are jus total opposites.

i love jars, i jus hate the attitudes. my lei is a darling. he does know its his tank tho but doesn't spend every waking moment trying to search n destroy

No problem man! You have some beautiful fish! I just wish my Gourami would let my Aro alone. How big was your GG before he started to calm down? I've heard from a few people that they do go through an aggressive phase, but usually relax as they mature.

The Lei and Jar are kind of like some of the gar species in the sense that many people can not tell them apart, but once you've kept them and worked with them it's clear as day.

Again...great fish man!

again, thanks a lot demjor.

for the GG, i'd say from 2"-8" he was pretty chill, then from there he went on strike and continued for over a year. after he tipped the 18 inch mark i'd say he calmed down alot. now that he's pushing 2ft he's just a big ol sweetheart!

That sounds about right. I've had mine since it was 2" as well and it just started getting aggressive at about 10". He's 11"+ now and a pain in the butt. Hopefully he eventually chills out and leaves the Aro alone. Also...what do you have your GG eating? Thanks for the input.

no problem demjor, thats why were all here right? :)

i have my GG on strictly pellets. i buy bulk large pellets on ebay at 10lbs for 20 bux shipped. my fish love this stuff and it doesn't cloud the tank. when he was younger tho i had him strictly on hikari red mixed with green. he does grab a feeder every now n then when hes not being lazy and really wants the snack :)

That's why were all here for sure! How old is he by the way?

I've been feeding mine NLS and Omega pellets along with some fruits and veggies. I've really been pushing more of the fruits and veggies on him in hopes of easing his aggression. Can't hurt to try, right?

he is currently about 2yrs and 3 months. i bought him back in august-september of 06.

fruits n veggies? i needa try that! someone told me my pacu could eat n crush walnuts n grapes so i might jus have a try with these n see who likes what. And no, doesn't hurt one bit to try, meaty foods usually add agression, so the oposite should hopefully help with the oposite which we hope is a more calm personality! haha

Yeah, GG's are naturally vegetarians...just like the Pacu. My Pacu used to love grapes, nuts, carrots, etc. My GG is addicted to avocado. Give it a try and i'll bet he enjoys it.
