Length of pvc?

the noise.. no.. that like.. what they do (theres slight mods you can do to fix this)

however it sounds like yer pump is overpowering yer overflow.. so yeah.. the valve thing is the way to fix this.. or build a bigger overflow.. or more overflows.. .. the less air you can get it to suck the more water it will be able to flow..

Well, it only makes that noise when it stops working :[ lol
The overflow is 1.5" pvc, so reducing the flow into the overflow should reduce the amount of air sucked into it as well, correct?
 
Don't fall victem to capping the vent. It is a really bad way to fix the noise problem, and frequently creates additional problems. The proper fix is to add a ball valve (or gate valve if you don't mind the extra money). The valve goes after the Tee, preferably down at the sump. You tune the system by slowly closing the valve until the gurgling stops.
 
I never capped mine, just rolled up a wad of filter material and shoved it in. No noise from the vent.

Chompers is correct, most of your noise can be eliminated by what he (and others) suggested.

Well the gurgling noise isn't a problem to me, but this would also help the overflow to keep siphoning and avoid taking in too much air correct?
 
if the overflow forms a syphon it will drain itself when the water supply stops... this means it will not autorestart after a powerfailure....

that said... you CAN use a cap.. however drill a hole in it.. this will prevent a syphon but it will quiet the gurgle a bit..

So what is happening at the moment is that my overflow will work for a while, but will kind of just stop taking water, and then the pump keeps going to the point that my tank is about to overflow, and would if I wasn't watching
But from what people have said it sounds like it is pulling in air through a joint and cementing it should stop that?
