Lenticulata!

Just as a heads up for all you pike fans, I am willing to trade one of the strigata pikes (Possibly both) for a good sized Lenticulata, Marmorata, Cobra, Atabapo, or some other similar species that does not grow past 14". I just don't want to take the chance of these pikes growing over 14". I know it sounds Picky, but I don't like keeping fish that I know will outgrow my tank. It bugs me. But first I would like to know the full size of Strigata "Red Back."

I can almost guarantee you that in a 120 gallon tank the strigata are not going to grow much past 12". 14" max.

In regards to a trade. I have 1 male and 2 female lenticulata. I am simply waiting for them to decide who likes who. Once I have a bonded pair I'd be more than happy to trade you a female lent for one of your female strigata if you're interested.

Wow, looking at these pics I'm even more convinced they are not lenticulata.

Aye, definately not lents OR marms!! 100% strigata there bro!! Hang onto them with all you've got!! If you do sell them though, be sure to give one of US here in the forum first dibs!! Not sure what variant of strigata they are though, I had the Red Fin also known as the Red Back I guess strigata. You can see my pictures in one of these threads. Great fish, they do get large, but a 120 will easily accomidate them. SCORE on those!! A pair at that! Even better!!

About trading them for other pikes, be careful for what you trade for. Those two are gettin along right now, if you trade them, its very possible that the pike you keep will be rather pissy with your new pike. Plus they are rare, very beautiful pikes, why split them up? FINALLY, Cr. lents and Cr. marms. can get to 16" +....strigata can get up there too. Its just not many people keep them long enough.... Your best bet would be sp. 'cobra'.....outa the ones you listed.

I am considering selling one of the Strigata. Although I would prefer local pickup, I might consider shipping for you guys on the Pike forum. I have never shipped befor, so I would need specific instructions and I don't think I would be able to offer a live arrival garuntee.

Scat second in command? Wouldn't have it. He's either right there beside me or ahead of me. If Marcus has something to say, you best bloody well listen!! He knows his fish, especially pikes.

And I'm not that much more ahead of you guys! Haha...I'm still learning some of this stuff as well. You ALL are learnin quickly and doing great. Pretty soon you'll be able to hold your own along with the rest of us!

Scat by right has first dibs on any of them that you might sell/trade. It would be wrong for you to sell it to someone else without giving him a chance first, as he has clearly stated that he wants them. I think he would be willin to make it worth your time too, haha...as I think he would love to have both of them..... Give you some other pikes in exchange. I guess you just don't realize what you have, obviously Scat does though....

Oh yeah, I woke up this morning to find a large crater in the substrate. Upon getting home from school, I found another. Both are dug so that the bottom is exposed. I believe that the pikes are creating these ditches. Both of them are circling these craters and locking lips. One of them is shoveling sand out of the crater. Could this be mating behavior?

Yup. I would get some pictures quickly!! You luck mo fo!! haha! IF you get them to breed and get some fry, I call DIBS!! I'll take 10!! They might need a vertical piece of slate or driftwood, or some PVC to spawn though, as I don't really think any of the Crenicichla are substrate spawners. Most are cave. Granted, we've not had many Lugubris pikes spawn before, so who knows!? Very kewl though!

It would be nice if they turned out to be a pair, and I would be more than happy to sell you guys any fry. If they are a pair, I might consider selling them together, in which case I would accept a trade for any good sized (8+ inches) Lent, Marm, Cobra, Atabapo, or some other pike that you think I might be interested in.

You did read this part right? Especially the part about those other pikes gettin 16" +....since you were gettin rid of the strigata for that very reason...kinda doesn't make sense to get a pike that will get larger. Maybe I've just got some weird method of thinkin, i dunno....
