Leohen Still Prego. How Long Is Too Long?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd guess the pups are still alive and well. If they weren't alive I don't think she would have the ravenous appetite. Thinking positive for you Trev.

X2. If they were dead, it would make sense that she would have aborted them soon after they died.

Im not rely sure how it works. I took a few pics but they do her no justice. It looks like shes holding about 8 pups

is the male in there with her? if not maybe put him back in and
he stress her into labor whether live or still born. understandably
you do not want to over stress her but maybe she needs a little push?
i know you never want to stress your fish especially a preggo one but
this does seem to be a real long time from all the reading i have done.
also could it be possible that she is having a longer gestation period due
to the fact that she can possibly have a large amount of pups?
just a thought

Trev,

I have a female BD which has been the same way for a similar time scale, looks 100% gravid but no movement what so ever plus she is as greedy as hell, not a big ray, approx 13" disc.

Do you want me to add pics of her on your thread? I won't do it without your say so.

all the best!

A lot of female live bearing Sharks and Rays can store sperm in the nidamental gland for several months or more for fertilisation at a later date. This could explain the long pregnancy.

Just a thought.
