Leopard Gecko questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Will they be alright if they're different sizes, or do they both need to be babies or both adults?

And if I get a male and a female, will they breed without any special conditions? because you're right latshki, I have NO leo experience and don't want to try breeding, at least not for a few years.

go with two females of equal size
males will pester the females a lot and right now I have my large male in with two of thy females and they have been quite stressed
when you have some experience and knowledge under your belt then you can start breeding but until then enjoy your pets and learn form them
I do suggest going to a show and getting your animals there from a good breeder instead of a pet store
and I really do recommend you pay for a higher priced animal as it will help support the community and it will get you a nice animal with a strong bloodline
don't be tempted by the ten dollar animals
I do recommend going to some of the gecko forums on the web such as geckoforums.net and I know I shouldnt recommend an other site but the more knowledge the better

I'm considering one. :D
Just got a few questions.
I've heard 10g is a good tank size, would this be for 1? or two?
How much would a regular from a petstore cost?
How much would one like this cost?

I'm guessing they eat crickets? Are there alternatives to crickets?
What kind of heat/basking lamp do they need?

Where did you get this picture from? This is my little girl(big girl now). I haven't read this whole thread but a comment on keeping leos together. I have two females the one above you and another high yellow female. The one shown above is highly food responsive and has bitten my other leo several times over the past couple of years so I had to seperte them. To me preferably each leo should have it's own place. They seem agitated by constantly being crawled on and having to share food. Could you keep several leos together, yes but I think that it would be better if they had thier own place. My experience is different form most.

Oh and her's a more recent pic(about 8 or so months ago). Big Girl! she is nearly 9in long and very thick! She cost me 30 bucks at petco.

I think I got that from the show off your leopard gecko thread, or some other thread on MFK.

You inspired me to get a gecko :D

To everything already stated I will ad that in my experience male leo geckos tend to be bolder, more agressive feeders then females and live longer then females. If you dont contemplate breeding these make better pets;)

That's usually the case but with my one trio the high yellow female is the dominant gecko in the tank.

I have also found that my males are better pets, as the females are all jumpy and are flighty the males will chill and are stronger and don't make weird noises either lol

So one male is better then two females?

This will be my first leopard gecko tank, if I have the money I will get more... :headbang2 These seem like awesome animals

It's matter of personlity when it comes to leos. both my leos are very outgoing and are never jumpy or flighty. My tangerine especially is very courageous and will lick my hand through the glass. I have never had a male so I don't know about them. I think either way you will be happy.
