I have never understood the F rating but wouldn't that make them F2s?

Yep, the very first generation (wild caughts in this case) are referred to as the F0 or P (for parental) generation

But wasnt the female a high yellow?:confused: Or that morphotipe also happens in the wild?
 
My first pair that I bought when I was 12 are a Wild Type male and a High Yellow female. They both live in a 20 long. 2 of their offspring live in that new 50 gallon tank I designed along with a Tangerine male. Both of those females happen to be 1 Wild Type and 1 High Yellow.
 
No no, I have none that are wild caught. My original male that I bought years ago was hatched from a gravid, wild caught female.
