Took a couple more videos...The pair are awesome parents-they've been herding the fry around the tank to eat, and don't seem the least bit bothered by all of MY shenanigans..David

Great pics and videos.

Would it be possible to get full tank shots. I'm curious as to the layout of your larger tank with the 7 pike in it. ( how is it set up to help keep aggression to a minimum?) I have 4 in a 5 ft. 120 gal and it doesn't seem to be anywhere near big enough.
Also, your breeding them in a bare 25 gal tank? Do you keep them in smaller tanks until they are ready then move them together or what?
A video of the belly dance the female does before she's ready for breeding would also be a great addition to your collection on youtube.
Thanks Fred

Hey Fred,
I don't move the pikes to a different tank to breed them, I put them in a tank with the intention of that being their home...
I put the lepidota in a bare 20 gallon tank because they were so small and I really didn't see them breeding anytime soon....they were actually in there with 4 ancistrus punctatus as well, and then I moved those(the ancistrus)...the spawn must've happened shortly thereafter...They were getting along so well together I figured there was no point in moving them, and then they spawned...
The semifasciatus: the tank they're in is a plywood tank(only glass in the front) with some rock work and a couple tree stumps...the tank is 6 feet long and 100 gallons..I had a conversation this afternoon with a buddy of mine about the agression....I think because the tank is 6 feet long it give's the other fish somewhere to go, whereas in a 4 foot tank, they maybe wouldn't have enough room to escape....This may not work much longer, as this afternoon I think two more of the remaining five are pairing up in the middle of the tank and staking out a territory....I will take some pictures ASAP and post them....David
p.s. there are also 3 silver dollars in the semi tank

Thanks...
I wondered as it would be a lot easier if a person could leave them individually in say a 20 gal and then put them together in a 40 or so when you wanted to try breeding them.
Mine are four lents ranging from 7 to 9 inches in a 120 gal that is 5 ft long. I gave them lots of cover and different areas to help displace the aggression. They get along pretty good on the most part, but am noticing more lip locking so am a little worried that they might pick out one and do some damage. The smaller one has a lighter streak ( not quite white) and it spends most of the time by itself while the others tend to stay in more of a pack. I also have three smaller fish and a pleco in with them that they don't tend to bother, but any other fish I put in they either eat or beat the p*** out of.
Do you live right in Winnipeg? I'm in Red Deer now but was born a couple of hours north of you and still have relatives in Winnipeg and throughout Man. Fred
