Leporinus fasciatus, or something else?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The ternetzi's banding looks a bit different, plus the lack of red fins. There is a bit of red, but mostly clear.
Here's a couple of pic:

They're supposed to get 6 inches like the A. anostomus, but we've had him over a year and he's only MAYBE 3 inches long.

Oh yeah I also meant to ask, how are you guys pronouncing desmotes?

I went to tell my husband what it actually was but then realized I wasn't sure of the pronunciation.

I think its pronounced des mote ees .
I`ve owned about a dozen different anostomids over the years and the desmotes was one of the worst for fin biting i wish you well with yours in the future.

Thanks :)

Yeah, I'd have to agree with the fin biting thing. We're very careful about the fish we house him with because of that.

The only fish we've had trouble with him nipping lately is my 10 inch ornate. He did it for awhile but then soon got bored, I guess because ornates have pretty tough fins. He didn't even make a mark.

Our ternetzi is also extremely bad about harrassing/nipping other fish, which is why his tankmates are also chosen carefully. He also seems to get bored with it as long as the other fish is big enough or fast enough.
