Ouch!! Sorry for the loss! As for keeping them with clowns mines did well just make sure drop a bit extra right before lights go out. My guy comes out right after lights out.

up up , will they take fish chewed and spit out by my arowana?
I found a clean fish bone picked clean of meat. My arowana usually swallows fish whole
Could it have been the loaches cleaning up the mess?

So the general consensus with these things is that they are incredibly slow growers. Is that just the nature of the fish? Or are we, the hobbyists, missing something?

I think they eat each other, i used to have 3 remaining, now I only have the a huge one and one which seems to be small now in comparison.
The other one is missing i suspect they donhunt each other the smaller one isout running and seems to have bite marks on his body

I just got one a couple of weeks ago around 6inch (eyelballing)... it's was quite shy and hides most of the time... but within the first few days, when i feed my tank... the market prawn smell would get him going, but it doesn't leave it's hidding spot much... sproradically swim in and out... so i tried to spot feed it, but putting the market prawn (small pieces) in front of him.. eats like a champ... hopefully within time he could eat on his own by venturing out and fight for his own portions.

I keep it with about 8 geos (5"), 7 3-4" clown loaches, a 13" aro, and 8" stingray... all seem to get along... though the ray would parachute over him on a couple occasions, but he came out unharmed... Hope that's as close as it will ever get...
