uggh man I always loved bocourti, the pearsei was supposed to be a bocourti but my son didn't want to wait for the bocourti so we settled on a pearsei,

Thoryicthys and geo really aren't my thing.

Any other suggestions only thing I can thing of is acara types and cryptoheros

So you DO consider Thorichthys a type of Earth-eater? I always thought they bore remarkable resemblance
Central american eartheaters such as thorichthys and geophagus cichlids are a very good case of convergent evolution.
The two families are in no way related and yet have evolved in very similar ways due to environmental factors.
Both have long sloped heads with eyes positioned high, ideal for grubbing around on sandy substrate.
Geophagus have a more advanced mouth when compared to central american eartheaters for their feeding techniques.
The two families are very similar in feeding and social habits.
Personally I find both these cichlid families extremely interesting and great to keep in captivity.
