this sounds messed but i have a bud who has trained a cat over the last couple of years to behave just like a dog outdoors. heels, won't leave the corners of his unfenced, city yard, and never screws with the koi pond. cool
that's gonna save everyone - the owner, the neighbors, the cat - some grief down the road.
my gf meanwhile takes the cat to the park on a leash lol ph.

racoons, possums, skunks, red tail hawks, owls, various species of birds (not pigeons or finches) and ever some southern alligator lizards, even foxes!!!! live here.

I love cats, I have 4 myself but domestic cats should be kept indoors. To say that cats don't cause harm is to ignore the big picture. The biggest problem is their slaughter of wildlife. Birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and even insects...cats will kill just about anything their size or smaller. They have caused a lot of ecological problems living free where they don't belong. Sure, they don't hurt people (not often anyway) but they are a non-native species living in a place they don't belong. Cats come from Africa, not North America or Europe or Asia or Australia or anyplace else. Just like carp and snakeheads are invasive in the U.S. cats are invasive all over the world, as are the other animals humans associate with such as dogs, rats, pigs...whatever.
Do you know why the ancient Egyptians used to put cats in the pyramids with the Pharoahs when the were entombed?
Because that is where those nasty smelling little b@$t@rd$ belong.

Educate yourself a bit before making such retarded statements. For starters, last I checked, racoons are native here. They have an established role and place in this country. Second, not all of us live in suburbia, some of us live in the country like myself where cats are VERY common. Rednecks hord them and farmers have them all over the place. I have never seen a racoon leap in the air and grab a bird, or jump through the grass after a rodent. I would hate to see my cat bring back a tiger salamander, cricket frog, spruce grouse, Allegheny woodrat, Indiana bat, fence lizard, sedge wren or anyother animal endangered or threatened in my area (I live in NY, so do all those animals).
On the flip side, I love cats. I hate seeing them dead in the road, shot by some redneck or sick with upper respitory infection in the middle of winter. If kept indoors these problems can be avoided.
Hateing anything, especially an animal is such a waste of time and emotion.

if you love em so much,- keep em in- they do not suffer by not going outside
although they can be little pains in the a--
average lifespan indoor outdoor cat =3 years

disease, cars, dogs other cats etc the trade off for captivity is a long healthy life
also they breed like tribbles so PUH -lease spay and neuter
Oh and fleas tick and worms not to mention the occasional warble
also there aere EVIL people out there who will do things that make me sick
just pulled a bb out of a cat's neck that the little old couple had had indoors since it was a kitten sooo someone shot a kitten with a bb gun
years ago there was a story about a kitten some rednecks threw on a bar-b-que
more recentlya tech told me how a stray bit this boys sister so he set it on fire and he and heis friends sat around and laughed while it screamed. uuugh this makes me actually sick to think of
since most of my multiple cats have been bottle raised they are rotten but don't feel the need to go outside
Halloween is coming, the humane society will not even adopt out cats around this time of year
oh and cane courso's running around loose in a pack?
cool dogs but that is about the most dangerous scenario I could think of
that is absolutely insane
just one can pull down an adult a pack is much bolder
keep after the local authorities
with a small child that is wayyy too much of a risk
get a lawyer now explain that you are following legal channels but if anything does happen they will be liable
and how stupid is that ? after the fact worst-case scenario?
