Let's ban fishkeeping!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
All the legislation that comes up banning certain animals are backed by peta and hsus. They do no good

Some species, such as the Banggai cardinalfish, have become endangered because of overfishing, a practice commonly employed to satisfy the aquarium industry.

I had no idea that by keeping one alive in relative safety was detrimental to its health and the general population! *gasp* lol

Collectors douse the coral reefs with cyanide, which is ingested by the fish who live there, and as reported in Scientific American, "[t]he resulting asphyxiation stuns some fish and sends others into spasms, making them easy to grab by hand or net." Half the affected fish die on the reef, and 40 percent of those who survive the initial poisoning die before they reach an aquarium. Cyanide also kills the coral reefs themselves, and marine biologists rank it as one of the biggest dangers in Southeast Asian waters.

Can this possibly be true? This sounds like utter BS to me......

and with that, I'm done with that article....I have an idea, lets post an article about how PETA is harming the animals and see how they like it! We can compare and contrast our methods with theirs....

EDIT: I had to add this one in there:

The city of Monza, Italy, banned keeping goldfish in bowls because the containers do not meet the needs of the animals and because, as one sponsor of the law pointed out, bowls give fish "a distorted view of reality."

Really guys?

I don't know much about HSUS, what's the problem with them?

Both hsus and peta have ties to animal liberation front which is a domestic terrorist group. Not to mention hsus tried to take money after katrina and for the vick dogs, which in neither situation they helped any animal. I look at hsus as the more accepted version of peta; same goals with a different approach

FROM THE ARTICLE:

What You Can Do
Please don't support the tropical fish trade by purchasing fish. If you enjoy watching fish, consider downloading one of the many colorful and realistic fish-themed computer screensavers available on the Web.

LMFAOOOO !! I can understand the debate with the salt water fish, they are mostly all caught from the wild..but I will laugh at the other parts of the article!

^ Actually a few countries overseas have banned bowls because the practice is deemed cruel. I think the UK is one of them.

I do not like PETA but commend them for some of the things they do. I may not agree with their method but they have a very hard job. For me its the fact they openly euthanize healthy adoptable animals instead of finding homes for them. That's not acceptable but what shelter doesn't? Maybe not as many as PETA but they still do it. Take for example the NYC's animal control. They euthanize cats simply because they have colds, even kittens. They will find any excuse to kill them.

It will only continue until people wake up and realize that things need to change. They take responsibility for their pets and don't let them breed uncontrollably. People think all those cute puppies and kittens are going to get a home once they are dropped off at the shelter but no, they're most likely slated for death.

As for fishkeeping I don't have a big problem with freshwater but I am iffy on salt. A lot of reefs have declined in the last couple decades due to over collecting and pollution..

It is important to understand that the "Humane Society of the United States" (HSUS) and local "Humane Society" shelters are not the same organization.

The HSUS is a lobbying group and does not run or fund shelters, but rather pushes a PETA-like agenda.

Local Humane Society shelters are largely volunteer staffed agencies that do their best to care for and adopt out unwanted and stray pets.

Not to mention they endorsed vick and said he was alright to have another dog.. I hate hsus.

Its funny how peta and hsus 'support & cherish' animals yet they are against much needed laws for making punishment harder on animal abusers etc. They were against oreos law as well as many others. I don't support an org unless I know everything about them like IDAF or SSCS, which are both great orgs that actually do something.
