theres quite a few of them at the lfs.
they look like crosses between nandus nandus, cardinal fish (SW) and barras.

sound interesting... dont suppose u got any ideas on average max size and temprament? sorry i will stop derailing ur thread soon!

ive heard they get to 8 inches max.
pretty much act like barras that arent aggressive.
no problems.
any discussions related to perch are welcome! :D

I imagine you're referring to what we call a Mouth Almighty?

It's actually one of the only freshwater cardinal fish in the world. They're morphologically interesting, and have pretty cool colours (if you're into greens and browns), but as an aquarium fish, they sort of leave a bit to be desired.

They're nocturnal, so you don't seem them often, they're very sedentary, and you'll more than likely never actually see one feed. They'll also eat things almost their own size, which I'm sure none of you perch keepers are surprised about. The one thing that really turns me off about them is their total lack of balls.

That's right, they're pathetic. They don't fight back when a fish of the same size charges them, so they just skulk off and eventually either starve to death, or run out of places to skulk to and die. So I suppose they'd be good in a quiet, community tank full of non-obtrusive and inexpensive tankmates. Otherwise, they're a bit of a waste of filtration capacity to be honest.

yeap thats the one... and thank you... im seriously considering a coal grunter for my bedroom 4' maybe the three if the mix with other grunters???? they mouth almighty sounds kool but a bit if its that shy its deffinately not for me!

lol there was only 3 brought in, i got offered a cheap gulper so snatched that insead, may grab up a grunter next week if they still there, but i want a sizable ST more... :naughty:
