Here's the best side shot I could get of my hybrid after eating 2 lbs. of shrimp today. He cut his nose on the edge of the pond. he gets a little over excited during feeding time.:naughty:

it's sad, he's to the point to where he's eating 2 lbs once every three days now. Sometimes he eats cod fillets, but usually shrimp.

I keep several species of large predatory catfish but I wonder whether gorging themselves like this is good for them? In nature they are always foraging for food and will consume whatever fits into their stomach since they never know when the next meal will be but is this good for their well being? Almost all of you will know large catfish can regurgitate if they take in too much but having that amount of dead food in the tank system anywhere all at once has got to be bad. Plus think about the days of forced digestion and discomfort which interputs their swim behaviour.

I dont really see the point in feeding any of my catfish in this manner. Is this good fishkeeping? There seems to be a certain amount of "brag factor" to this as well which is equally disturbing. I am not saying I am right and you guys are wrong. I am not even saying dont do this to your fish. What I am doing is wondering aloud whether this practice is good for the catfish and why is there a need to do it?

Also I can see some new beginner predatory catfish keepers which might come accross this thread and get the idea this is the best way to feed their fish. Hopefully I havent stepped on any toes.
