LETS SEE THOSE BETTAS!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
*BUMP*...........There has to be more ppl with Bettas on here ! ? (My photo skills suck, but I still post them!)

Wow really beautiful fish, now I want one too.
Don't have much space, how small a tank can you keep one male in?

Bettas supposedly like shallow water. Imao, it seems that the Males like to stay near the top of the tank/container, no matter how good the water conditions are, or whether there's other fish in the tank. I think the best answer I can give you, because I'm for sure not the 'Expert', please get the container that has the most 'floor space' and at least 4" deep (I use the 2 1/2gl aquarium) - that's if you just plan to have one male Betta.***PLEASE use the Water Conditioner that's made for BETTAS. :D It works terrific for Bettas! :D Personally, I do a normal tank setup, with all the bells and whistles, as I would do for any fish. *Please, don't make the mistake of putting the tank/container in full sunlight. The temps go up and down so quickly, it stresses the fish, and much of the time the water will get way hotter than they can stand. (Sorry to say, my mom did this with one that I bought her as a present. She thought it was so pretty, she liked how he looked with the sun shining through his beautiful body. I had told her to just turn it's over head light on....moms don't always listen when the advice is from there own 'kid'.:grinno:) Anyway, I hope you find a nice healthy male Betta for your home. There's so many colors and body/tail types to chose from, it's almost like making a decorating statement! :D Good Luck Good_Times, with finding a beauty!

I haven't seen this topic!!
I breed bettas since 4 years. I used to do some (real) international contest in Europa, and some virtual ones on the net.

I prefer plakats (short finned bettas) but i also breed HM (long finned)
The IBC (International Betta Congress) have choosen 2 of my fish to illustrate the official standard for show-plakat and doubletail plakat.

OMG, your betta's are amazing to say the least!!! c

it has always baffled me why people think it's ok to keep bettas in cup-sized bowls and containers

shouldnt' they at least be in a 5 gallon? personally i'd go 10 gal minimum

some awesome looking bettas though.

knifegill, that's an awesome specimen

Wrong, you mighy have a PH 6 to 7, soft water, T° 26C, CLEAN WATER without nitrates. I don't have filters in my tank, i do a 100% waterchange twice a week. I think bettas should not be kept in tanls less than 5 liters.
Waterconditionner is the same for all fishs, you don't need to use the specific one (i don't). You can add ketapang leaves (Termina catappa), bettas love it!

Sumo ninja, mustard gaz is also one of my fav color

Plakat MG (metallic ones...Carry armadillo and DT, and also orange)

*Yellow arawana, are you trolling? I have 8 females in a 55gl, strong and healthy, in hard alkaline water. Depending on where they were raised and what those water conditions were, it does have some thing to do with how I keep them. You said not to put into a tank less than 5 liters? That's less that 2 gallons? Did you mean 5 gallons?

Bettas are AGRESSIVE TOWARD EACH OTHERS, males of female must not be kept together. If your females don't fight it is because they are stressed. in the wild, they can run away, in a tank they cannot.
A betta must be kept ALONE. Maybe that's why they are called fighting siamese fish... Hu?
For sure a human can live all his life with half of the corpse in the water, eating bread, but is it the better for him?
For sure you can have 10 aras in a 3X3X3 cage...
For sure you can have a 50cm peacock bass in a 120 liters tank...
For sure you can have many females in the same tank with wrong water conditions...

Respecting the waterconditions and the normal behavior must be normal if you keep an animal. It is the less we can do for them, for our little egoist pleasure...
Come on, go on specialised forum (betta4all for example, i used to moderate it) and you will see that it is not recommanded to have bettas together.
I breed bettas since 4 years, I do betta contest, i am petshop manager, i am starting a fish breeding farm, so i think it is possible that i know what i am saying about my favorite fish, dear Pandamania.
5 liters = 1,32 gallon
I do selective breeding, i have about 1000 bettas, all in a tank alone in my home. It is a passion, and not a business, so i sell cheap and it cost me much more than i sell. I can't have 60 liters for each fish, so they are raised from 2 months to 4 months in small tanks. Then they will be in a bigger tank in their new house.
I got some for pleasure in bigger tanks, but only a few.
At 2 months old they begin to fight hard, so i have to separate them. Bettas are agressive, it is the normal behaviour and this fish must keep it! In betta contest, if a betta is not enough agressive, judges disqualify him!
