~~~LET'S SEE THOSE EARTHEATERS~~~
  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I took some troph juvies to JasonsPlecosCichlids JasonsPlecosCichlids yesterday to ship to a buyer in NY. While I was there I picked up these beautiful sveni. I had every intention NOT to buy them, but when I saw them in person I was done 😍
They’re 3.5-4.5”. Incredible trailers on their caudal & pelvic fins.
QT’ing atm. May end up keeping them as a single species, may add them to the 500g w the red heads, AUL, clown loaches & fire eel….maybe 🤔
My first collecting of a true mineral rich water, high pH Geophagus crassilabrus, caught at a pH of 8.2, and hard water.
IMG_0759.jpegIMG_0761.jpegIMG_0825.jpeg
It was caught in fairly shallow, fast flowing water (only at most a foot deep), netted with the non-gophagine, Central American earth eater, Darienheros calobrensus.
Netted in Jan 2026, and easily converted to prepared food such as flake, and pellets, and it has done well the last 6 months.
So far thoug hit is the only one of the species collect so far, and I believve it is a female.
It shares a 180 gal tank with 4 Darienheros cichlids, a couple Rhamdia cat fish, from the same rider, as waa 6 inch knife fish.
They look great Ryan. I think males top out about 6-7”. The 2 pictured look to be a male & female. Any spawning activity?
Anyone in Toronto want some geophagus diamantinensis F1's LOL
Cool species. Can you share pics of the adults?
If you're offering fry for sale you'll have to post an ad in the canadian marketplace section of the forum and list a price per the T&C's
Was more making a joke on how many I have, will make a proper post when they are bigger. Since I don't see these in the hobby here I saved every fry without knowing these are extremely prolific and hardy.
I got them from Oliver Lucanus at BelowWater and so far they breed non-stop even with fry. Once the 2nd batch becomes free swimming then the female will pin the fry to the far end of a 75G, the male doesn't view them as a threat. Once pairs are ready to breed conspecifics are not welcome but dithers are fine.
Haha, gotcha.
They look like mini brasilliensis with a pointier face. I like the yellow base color w the black extending onto the first few hard dorsal rays. Cool looking gel. How big do they get?
Yes they are in the brasiliensis complex. Females get to around 3.5" and males 5". They are really interesting the way they build elaborate walls and almost tunnel like areas where they hide the wrigglers. I will get better pics at some point when I move the pair, haven't been able to have a proper tank light on since getting them 4 months ago. Im sure they would get used to it eventually but went from quarantine to trying to breed right away. The male has a great orange and the female is a bright yellow. During breeding the female really glows yellow all over and the male shows more yellow on his body but fins remain orange.
