Herichthys carpintus, be they "escondido" or "chairel" or ???? are all carpintus, the names are based on location, either the lagoon or city near where the original fish were caught, and each location may offer a fish with a slightly different color pattern or color intensity.
Some keepers may want to breed and keep fish only from a certain location together. In this way, the variant would always be considered that type.
If however a keeper puts a chairel with escondido, or LFS variety with escondido, and they breed, the young would become a generic/ aquarium strain of carpintus.
And because there seems to be a preponderance of hybridization of late, the name "implies" that the species has been kept true, and not been crossbred, and or hybrid.
