Lets talk about cheapo knock off ebay canisters...

Whatever you do, dont buy the sunsun canister filters. They are crapp

This could not be farther from the truth. I own 5 of them decent flow, easy to clean, and super quiet. They are made exactly like a marineland canister just way cheaper.

For those that had good luck which seller did you buy from? I'm very interested in trying one out & am just looking for the best deal.

I just got my 375 gph sun sun filter off ebay two days ago...first off...the quality is right up there. The canister itself is heavy gauge and the pump on top seems pretty beefy...I'm excited. It's working great. Everything arrived with no directions, but was pretty straight forward...I'm super pleased...I have some additional media coming via mail, so I'll try and snap some pics for when I break it down and check it out after a week of work. I got mine from:

For 64.99 complete and shipped. Awesome. I cannot say enough how impressed I am with these Sun Sun's.

Any issues w/included hoses or connections? I've heard some had issues in this department. How are all the intake & outlet tubes/fixtures/fittings? Anything you would change about it now that you have it? What media does it come with? How is the hose fitting that connects the hoses to the canister itself? I like how my Fluval has a valve that will quickly and easily close the end to not allow water to come out which makes priming after the fact easier. Does the valve for this particular filter have this? Also, how are the hoses because they look pretty basic. The Fluval hoses look/feel more robust but maybe that's not as necessary.

I've had a CFS 500 for 5 months, It's got really good flow for the money. I, like everyone else who's bought one, have broken the lid, but they replaced it free of charge. You just need to give this bad boy a couple of mods, you can find a few threads on here for directions.

I just ordered this one from ebay. Can you tell me why the lid broke? And how I can avoid this?

i bought one of the cfs500 n the lid broke

the red thing that you bend to control water flow and to disconnect it is very tough and needs a lot of arm muscle, and the black part of the lid that connects to the red part broke off. also i had my intake tube sideways parallel to the ground, and that meant the water in the hose (1 inch diameter, its a lot of water) weighed the black part to the side too much. they wanted 15 bucks for a new plastic lid. :/

but yeah aside from the lid breaking i wouldn't get the cfs500

the filter design is horrible. the water does not flow evenly throughout the media. after cleaning it a few times, only half of the media got the water flow, and was clogged with debris. the fine pad comes before the large porous white sponge, and the black sponge at the bottom doesn't really do anything. no water movement at the bottom. as a result, the fine pad clears most of the debris/concentrates it right at the intake, lowering flow.

flow is great, though, and it's not too loud. i'm going with the sunsun 375 gph. better media (which makes all the difference).

My Odyssea CFS 500 lid just broke and dumped 15 gallons of water out of my 55, the lid is a fragile POS and I no longer recommend this filter for any reason.
