Leucustic bichir?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks like a wild caught sen, not leucistic (scientific term for 'platinum').

It's washed out and will darken up in a couple days.

I agree. WC sen. Looks to be much larger than mine as well

The very long flowing tail, nostrils and head shape distinguish it. Nigerian Sens like mine are a much darker colour, can't believe it would be washed out like that??

Mine was a light olive colour when I got it, now a dark green. No ways it could be so pale?

It still look like a ornate imo
That's no ornate! Definitely something up w/ its colour though. Within hours on black my wc went quite a deep olive

How is it looking today?

Lets say in theory it IS just a super washed out WC Sen... well you still have a really nice looking WC Sen, which is also a rarity on this continent. Nice headshape and also nicely shaped dorsal finlets.

I am maybe still too much of a noob but IMHO the upper jaws are very hard to identify without their markings. When Josh's Fish Josh's Fish did those super close up ID shots we were all over the place in ID and those were WITH some identifying markings.

Do normal Sens have golden eyes?

I'm on the same boat that this is not a leucistic bichir. I think it's most likely a color morph. But it seems this is its color for now... he took some silver sides so if he's comfortable to be eating I assume he'd have changed colors by now.
I guess from what you guys are saying he's a WC polypterus senegalus yellow morph lol

You are very lucky to A: get a WC sen there
B: get a colour morphed one.

Oh well I can just get more if I want to lol.

Polypterus are highly variable, can't stress this enough. Color, pattern, shape, size, all vary from fish to fish.

Your fish is going to get darker than what it currently is, especially on the black sand.

It is a really nice looking WC senegalus, I'm jelly

Give it some time to adjust to the sand. Bichirs don't fully change colors overnight. Doesn't look to be any sort of color morph though. If it did, looks more like leucistic than any other morph out there.

Yellow morph(Xanthic) would look more like these bichirs.
