LFS IN NJ

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm really surprised no one mentioned fish hut, they are less than 5m away from route 4.

1. Fish Hut - amazing tank set ups with healthy fish smaller salt section, decent SA/CA section, huge African selection knowledgeable guys, reasonable prices and MFK members get a 15% discount to.

2. Route 4 - large selection of SA/CA, smaller African selection, and decent sized SW. Tank health leaves a lot to be desired for me here saw a lot of dying fish. Prices are mostly reasonable and MFK members get a 15% discount.

3. Shark Aquarium - Huge selection overall lots of uncommon stuff don't believe they have salt water prices can be high for certain things. Tank health seems hit or miss. MFK members get a 15% discount.

4. Pet Shanty - selection is very common stuff, minimal SA/CA, only common Africans, decent SW selection. Prices can be high and tank health is generally ok here. Does not offer MFK discount but does offer NJAS discount 10% I believe.

This is all my opinion after shopping many times at all of them.

Is Fish Hut the place with the big albino RTC?

Pet shanty I don't like because of something they're did a few years ago. Thy sold me a synspilum at 8" to put In my 37 gallon with a Severum. It killed a bunch of fish and they gave me a 40 dollar credit, even tough the fish was $60 and killed $40 of fish

TBH, you're very lucky they even gave you that. Most stores won't give you anything for a situation like that. Most places don't even do a stay alive period guarantee.

No, I think you are thinking of fishtown. Fish hut is clean and has a nice african selection but everything else is vanilla petco type stuff.

Yeah,Fishtown, that's it!...I happened upon that place a few years ago on the way to visit someone. That catfish was awesome,I wonder if it is still there or if that store is even still open.

It was his fault for telling me it could go in the aquarium. he said it could go with my fish and killed all of them/

Its there and still open, last time I was there i didnt see the cat but they did remoldel so it might have moved... That store is actually 30 seconds from my office and i never go... That should be enough of a description of my feelings on it...lol

Yeah I don't remember anything really special about them except for the RTC and they seemed to have quite a few planted tanks.

No, unfortunately, it's your fault for not doing proper research before purchasing a fish. Vieja can be quite aggressive and get way larger than the aquarium you had but you should know enough to do research before you purchase. Beyond that, fish compatibility is always a gamble. Even seemingly docile fish have proved problematic when put into a different aquarium with different stock.

If they knowingly sold you a sick or injured fish, that's different.

They have a decent SW selection but the FW selection is extremely poor. Actually, their SW selection is pretty solid.
