so I whent to a petstore today and I got a head ache cause I couldent decide what I wanted ended up getting to male bolivian rams and some water conditioner. but they also had some apistogramma for 8 dollars which I wanted. the people there had no idea what they had the had pirahna labeled as pacu and wanted to charge me 20 dollars for a pictus cat!!!!

id hate to be the kid who buys those "pacu" and get bitten

anyway dont you wish the people knew more cause I bought a bristle nose female the other day labeled as common pleco and the lady told me they like to eat algea im like yeah my other pleco (RIP) loved nectarines.

the stores should atleast label the fish and add a small description

do any of you have any ignorant petstore stories?? im sure you do :naughty:

Both my female BN plecos were sold as commons whatever it makes them cheaper.

Yes most stores don't know anything or sometimes they think they do. My lfs often gets fish in that they don't know what they are. A truely good fish store will have an educated staff but thoes are very hard to find these days.

This one store near me is CLUELESS. They have all the labels wrong, they call a blood parrot a flower horn and have them labelled as extremely aggressive. Mean while you can't even find a FH in this city. They don't know what they are talking about either. I asked them if they had brine shrimp and they gave me algae wafers. lol Just dumb. I tried to tell them that they were algea wafers but even with the label "ALGEA WAFERS" they still didn't believe me. They have tropicals mixed with cichlids. It's just a total mess in their.

In all honestly, I hate when pet stores know pretty much nothing about fish and sell them, but in the end I truly think the buyer should be the one to research their fish first. The pet stores can know nothing, as long as you research your fish before buying them. If you are unsure about something, don't buy it.

mmm, i've got some of the more valuable fish from know nothing pet stores, ooh longfin bristlenose, albino to hey... (worth 100$+ around here) for 15$ done.
Edit: they thought the poor fella was just wierd :D

Mine is actually pretty good. There's a kid there no older than maybe 18 or 19 that knows more about fish than the majority of people I've ever talked with. The owner's an awesome guy, too. He gets customers all the time that don't understand that putting two semi-aggressive fish in the same tank may result in, well, aggression

Aside from that, anything they're not completely sure on they've got loads of books with info that they've let me look at a couple times. Really is useful, haven't had single problems in my tank. All fish are healthy, no aggression towards each other, etc. Love 'em :)
