LFS storys

No, he wanted me to take out all media and just leave the case and pump in.

I appreciated all of the mis-information I received from my LFS people. When I brought the 5 oscars, the 2 jewel fish, the gouramis, the feeder guppies, the pleco the shoaling fish and the 55 gallon fish tank at the same time, I had no problems! They told me all of the fish would remain small enough to stay in that tank.

In fact two months later, it was they who said, I needed a better filtration system when I brought my water sample in (the water was never changed). All in all, it was that same store that convinced me that I should buy more tanks!

Long story short, my hobby was formed! Keeping fish ALIVE!

ya i only go to a few lfs, and they have never told me wrong but sometimes if you know more than they do you can get a fish for less than they paid for it which is always a plus....like a full grown firecracker for $5..easyl a $40 fish

About 7 years ago, I was at Petsmart when I saw a small RTC. I figured I would play dumb..."What kind of catfish is that?" The guy started looking for a sign and replied, "It's an Anues Cory." Yeah...so I continued at this point to play stupid and ask more questions.

Me: How much?

Employee: $1.62 after taxes.

Me: How big do they get?

Employee: They get pretty big. As big as a plecostomus. (Using hand jester to show that it get about 6")

Of course I bought it. Sucker! Unfortunately, it only lived with me for 2 months. :(

I went to the pet store otday to get a male Convict, since it seem that I have 2 females. As I was there, a couple were looking at some fish. They were getting 2 Oscars and wanted a Jack Dempsey for their 10g tank. I used to work there and just had to jump in the conversation as my friend (who still works there) was helping them and tried to explain that they needed a bigger tank. The customer was telling my friend that the Oscars will grow to about 6" in that tank. I was able to talk them out of getting a JD, but unfortunately, they still wanted the Oscars. :swear: I told them that they'll need at least a 75g in a few months. The Oscars were about 1/2" But I don't think they'll be getting a larger tank. Those poor Oscars :(

I hate it when people do that.... another story I remember was a a walmart... I (personally) think no superstore (walmart,k-mart ,etc.) should carry fish.... well a couple of teenagers walked in and were buying a pacu and a bowl to scare their mom... well the worker there said it would be fine.... I was about to step in but they wouldn't listen to a 14yr old :(

my story is on a slightly different not I had given my niece a convict tank as a first tank for her birthday well about 6 months later she was talking to me telling me how she had saved up and bought a 55gal and was trying to figure out what to put in it she asked me if I would go to the lfs with her and help her out. I did well thre was a texas cichlid with her brood in a 55gal tank and she was so protective that everytime someone would walk by she would ram as hard as she could into the glass(thankfully this store is closed now) well as we were leaving with 2 brand new jewels we heard shattering glass sure enough mama texas had rammed herself hard enough and frequently enough to push the tank right of the edge. Never underestimate your cichlid parents huh?

My first fish: the lfs (only one at the time) had 1" yoyos for $7. Each week i came there and looked in the yoyo tank and saw that there was a smoothed rock in the center with a sliver of something under it, sometimes the sliver would even move! The day came when I could buy fish and told the employee to lift the smoothed stone, and under it was a GIANT 4.5" yoyo loach! because i was the only onwe to spot it, It was $7 like the rest.

did you know that a gar is a peaceful, community fish?
It was news to me, too.

Also you can get that cute little silver arow for your 29g guppie tank since it will not get that big.

That is why you should find a good LFS, with employees that are fish crazy that are working at the fish store to get a "fix" for their watery addiction, instead of a dude working to save up some money to buy a cool music CD.
Gar are peaceful community fish, you just need a large community.

I personally like when the fish store sells you a fish, even talks you in to it ,and then don't carry the food it needs! I even bugged and bugged them some more to get in the Bloodworms and they said..."we'll se what we can do" UGH* luckily I have a computer and a credit card! Man I'd like to smack the crap out of those guys!
