Fish are typically marked up 4-5x what they are bought for wholesale. He prob paid $15-ish for it. Next time you go, ask him what the wholesale price was, give the difference, call it a day.

very good idea. I highly doubt he paid more than 20 at most.

It's the managers fault if he hires employees that can't tell one fish from another. Keep the ornate. If they hassle you about it, tell them KMAGB and you'll file harassment charges if they continue.

BTW, I got an angelicus syn. (normally $100) for $3.98 bacause that was the only price on the tank. And, that mistake was by the asst mgr.

Keep it. Uneducated employees are one of many money losses in the fish industry. If it would have died in the store, they would have been out wholesale cost as well as what you paid. If you need peace of mind, call the store and tell them it died, they can't prove otherwise.

BTW Oddball, are angelicus synodontis really $100? I bought a 4" one that was the gold spot variant from a fish manager at a petstore because he said he didn't like those kind of fish and the previous manager ordered it. I paid his created price of the top of his head of $13.

IMO It is there mistake. You should tell them if they want it that bad, then they can pick it up from you. Otherwise they should chalk it up for a loss. Who is going to pay you for you time and gas?

This was about 25-30 years ago when they first came into the hobby.

$70 is a ripoff for a small ornate anyway.

Keep it. I would offer the difference to their cost but nothing more.
Ask to see the wholesale price to make sure they aren't shooting you a high number.

tell you would but the fish died.
keep the thing it's their mistake/loss!

Have to agree with everyone else. I'm in retail and if we make the price error we have to eat the loss. It's our mistake not the customer. Unless they switched tags.

if you dont go there that often i would just keep it and never go back lol. but if its the only one around then i dunno. but either way a pet store isnt going to be happy with their loss regardless if it was your fault or theirs
