wow in my dreams!! my lfs employees act like deer in headlights when i ask them ANYTHING grrr..
I used to have a store near me that I could go to and they would tell me exactly what would work and I could just have a conversation about fish, but now it closed. I guess people don`t want good service, just sick fish with lower prices
When I had started out my LFS gave me HORRIBLE advise. Put me in a real bad place for a bit. Just out to make money.
I've been on both sides of it.. and when you find a place with people who know what they are doing and are helpfull... spend your money there! sometimes It's hard to justify spending a few extra dollars.. but in the long-run that store is more likely to succeed. atm it's hard for the private lfs to compete w/ the big chains.. nothing is more dangerouse then a petsmart or petco w/ knowledgeable staff to a ma and pop type shop. But now I have a petco thats 10 mins down the road.. but I drive almost 40 to get to a private hole in the wall that always has great prices, and great service. I buy all my fish, and food from them.
I guess that makes us lucky too. We have one that's about a 45 min drive from home but worth it! They know EVERYTHING about fish in there. And have like 4 million of them in stock too. lol, not that many. For you minnesotans and Sconnies not in the know, its called Forest Lake Pets.

When they get told that it is not a good idea, they still argue, despite the advice given, and you know they are going to go ahead and mix those fish anyway.
You guys are luckier than me. There are absolutely NO lfs near my house I have to drive for about an hour to get to one. Even a PETSMART is about 30 minutes away from me.
