Life of having a pleco

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've allways had Plecos. They're essential to keeping the glass crystal clear of algea and picking up left overs around the tank. This may help your poop problem; Don't focus on feeding the Pleco. They will find food left over from their tank mates and it keeps them hungry for algea where ever they can find it. If there is natural wood in the tank watch to see if your Pleco is munching on it. (Shrinking wood deco). Once your tank is free of algea the poop problem will go away. Good luck Monsta!
This is terrible advice to give anyone. 90% of people that come on here with pleco dying for lack of food have this thought. Plecos are fish in themselves and deserve to be treated as such. Plecos should always be feed just like any other fish in the tank.

Fish die more times per year due to over feeding. I'm sure it maintains a balance as long as there's no obvious sigs of starving and you still offer the essentials, fish only process 50% of what they eat, so if the pleco eats crap all day he is getting 50% food 50% poop, in which, he will only process 50% of making 25% nutrients consumed. Not exact but a good idea of whats going on, so basically you offer your pleco half of what the other fish consume, but there's more fish then plecos.

My crayfish and ghost shrimps live on whatever I feed my Piranha, but I feed variety, therefore they get pellets, talapia, shrimp etc so no mater what they get enough nutrients, you should still offer a sinking pellet or veggies as treats.
