Lighting a 55 planted tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So this is what the tank is looking like now. I got rid of 6 of my wife's Red Swordtails but had to keep a few red still. I also got rid of 27 Sword babies that were about an inch long. Stock is currently:

5 x Red Swordtails (Female)
2 x Blue Swordtails (Male)
3 x F1 Rio Otapa Swordtails (1F 2M) I had 3 Females commit suicide the first night I had them.
4 x F1 Silver Angels
2 x Angels ( 1 Marble 1 Blushing)
6 x F1 Laetacara dorsigera
10 x Albino Corydoras aneus
5 x Albino Bristlenose Plecos (1M 5 F)
1 x Spotted Bristlenose Pleco (Female)
8 x Red Eye Tetra's.

I know the bioload is a little high but everyone is doing great.

Tank is looking really good.

Thanks. It's hard to find good a good LFS where I am let alone good plants. I'm always on the lookout though. I think my next stop will be to order some plants online.

I have the Odyssea T5HO 3x54 with lunar lights.......the LEDs keep blowing out. Aqua traders sent me some new ones and in less then 5 minutes they were blown as well. I originally had them on my 55g with the legs and it was looking pretty good. Once I set up my 90g I could not use the legs at all. Luckily I have a canopy and they rest on the tank and the canopy covers them. They do not get hot but I don't think the bulbs that come with it are as bright or powerful as they are supposed to be. So far I like the set up but I would love the set up if the LEDs worked for more then 10 minutes.
I would like to know if anybody has changed out the ballast or tried a rewire and got better results?

I'm just over a month in with the light and the only complaint I have is also with the LED's. I have had 2 go out in the last week and the remaining 2 are very dim. What did you say to aquatraders to get them to send you some new LED's and how hard are they to put in?

Since my first 2 blew out in less than a month they replaced them. When I told them the other 2 blew out they have never returned any of my emails or calls. I just gave up and went and bought TruLumen LEDs. I bought the blue lunar lights and they fit in where the cheap odyssea LEDs were. I would just replace all 4 at once. I thought 2 would be fine but it's just not enough.
