I was thinking about switching out my standard Light on my 90 gallon for a blu hued light for my electric blu dempsey to have better color and to also hopefully give my tank a bluish hue to it and bring out all the real colors... i have no real plants...this is my list...

Retic Ray
EBJD
Clown Knife
Glass Knife
Peckoltia Pleco
Gourami
Betta

(all peaceful except the betta beilive it or not... helps he's a wimp though)

Anyone have any ideas/pointers/or experience? for me?:screwy: :screwy: :screwy: :nilly: :screwy: :screwy:

2 options. 1 get a blue LED moonlight, I prefer R2 moonlights. 2. get an actinic light. Both will have a blue hue, the moonlight is more intense blue, but less seen due to the low wattage. The actinic is great, but will cost a little more in electricity.

Imo you should try to replicate a natural light cycle and place the light above the tank 12inches or more even hang form the celling if possible..

I'am currently useing a POWERGLO high intensity aquarium lamp .. that I have suspended 24inches above the top of the aquarium with a 1/4 inch thick plexy glass top .
this type of lamp is both salt and fresh water compatable but it's more suited for salt water tank's aswell as african cichlid tank's ..

it intensifies the color's of the fish and coral (if it were to be use on a salt tank) this bulb is strong in the blue region in the spectrum of color .. but it is a whitish blue sort of like some car headlight's..

buy the way it's only 20 watt's and 24 inches long so your elctric bill won't be throught the roof and the police will be less likely to think your growin marijuana..:D

go to homedepot get the phillips full spectrum natural daylight flouresent tube do not get the aquarium and plant light it sucks its orange the natural daylight is blue.

Home Depot Really the answer for this light issue? I shouldnt go to the LFS, they probably will try and talk me into crap for a light? I like the suspending it in the air idea, will look better and will filter away some of the intensity. HomeDepot or Online? How many watts for just a 90G? No plants, again..thanks -Josh:banhim:

Those bulbs are 6700K which is a generally good spectrum to have for plants, which is a yellowish orange color.

I just want to have a Blue look to my aquarium for my Blue JD, and For the Backround of my tank... Im going to have the light elevated about a foot above the tank if nto a little higher... so whats the best option for a blue spectrum in the tank, no yellow or orange or red... BLUE calm cool and collected...-thanks for helpin me on my quest.josh

I would do a blue LED setup, either the single bulbs, or the R2 strips, but do not elevate them.
