African's visually benefit from actinic supplementation to bring out their colors. Maybe a 50/50 bulb. I've always liked a lower kelvin bulb for CA/SA cichlids, 3400K.

CharlieTuna Gambusia MFK Member Sep 18, 2010 444 0 16 Colorado Jan 27, 2012 #3 For my African Cichlids, I'm using a florescent fixture with in 10k bulb and one actinic bulb. This is a standard saltwater light, I feel it brings out the colors in the fish. As already mentioned, the fish don't care.
