A little off topic, but the reason why there are no precious metals in our coins are because of The Feds.

Do you know the US government has no authority to print money? The Federal government only has the authority to “coin money”. The Feds or The Federal Reserves that control the USD is not even apart of the government. Look it up. The Federal Reserves are 12 independent PRIVATE Banks that are for Profit Corporation. They are the reason why we are currently in this financial mess.

sorry to rain on your parade but this is illegal and plenty of people have been busted on MFK the feds are watching

:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Thats funny on so many fronts!

The fed is watching a fish site? haha! There may be a few wildlife officials that take a peak every now and then but what do they have to do with coin collecting?

Legal US tender is legal US tender, how could that be illegal?

Plenty of people have been busted on MFK? Really? You must ahve seen alot here in your six months. I guess being here for over 5 years I just forget those "plenty" people that get busted on here! lol

As far as redepositing, my bank has a free coin counter. Drop in coins, prints a receipt, take receipt to tellar and redeem for cash or deposit into my account.

Either you just got lucky or silver coins are a lot more common where you live. I always am looking and It has been a long time since I have run across any. :irked:

The metal value is $4, but can you actually sell them to a metal buyer for that amount? If so you could really be on to something - take out $500 and time how long it takes to sort and redeposit it and figure out what you can make per hour.

for most of us, Time spent counting x time away from other money making opportunities + everyday crap that has to be done = not worth it at all.

jd your a smart dude thanks for the advice precious metales only go up in value

They only go up in value? Really?

The last time silver went over $ 20 an ounce was in the 1980s. It didn't stay at that level very long. It dropped like a rock to as low as $ 4 an ounce and stayed low for over 20 years.

Nothing is forever. Remember the housing prices just a few years back? People thought housing prices can only go up and everybody including my barber was trying to flip houses. I know folks who got stuck with 5 condos or more and had to file for bankkruptcy after taking big losses on their sure fire investment.

Collectible coins (MS 67 or higher) have a better history though.

I do it in free time and like I said Im using to save for my daughter who is only three. Everyone probably has a piggy bank for their kids and its much better to invest it in something then to let it sit and go down in value due to inflation. Its hard to explain to a three year old that we took "her money" and put it in the stock market or anything like that, but when we come home with a shiny metal bar or coin she is happy. We hope that it will instill a mindset to save money instead of frivolously spend it at a young age.

I live in an area of many tourists, military and "snowbirds" and few permanent resident, that is why I believe there are more here then older areas with larger resident populations.

Finding silver for cents on the dollar really does only go up in value.

I rather go look for aluminum can and plastic bottle in public trash bin
