I have wread several things about this type of cat. Can I keep one in a 85G? They only get 18" right? So is their a problem with it? I know the Walking catfish is out of the question because they are massive.

Thanks

depends really.... what are you keeping them with? nothing so small that it can fit in their mouths. Ive read that they can be hard to get off of live foods and on to others. I personally havent had that problem but others have. As for the 18" thats where most seem to top out in the home aquaria. But 20+ isnt unheard of, just not that common. Im hoping to get mine past the 20" mark.

Walking cats as in Clarias batrachus are not going to be much bigger than a Lima.

I have read somewhere in the wild they can reach 2 ft,very shy when young but as they mature and grow they become more personable. My 12" comes up to the top of the tank and waits patiently at feeding time,i got mine off of Live"feeders" in like 2 days, just use raw market shrimp. Also they are not bullies at all but will eat fish smaller than itself if hungry(as do all cats.)All in all a very good cat!!

Well I guess I can try it. I will have to sell the smaller fish in the tank thow. The smaller fish would be a Silver Dollar at 6", should I be affraid of an adult Lima eating them? I want to have some Blue Loaches in with them and since they get 7" and they are more streamline, would they be eaten? The rest of the fish will be Kissers a GT and a Severum. I don't think that they will be targeted as food.

Mine has been a very slow grower, but that is just because it is a picky eater. It only eats frozen foods, and I have been trying to get it on pellets. I may cave and just feed more frozen to get it to start growing more.

I'm probably going to try it. I always wanted a big catfish. I wont be upgrading to a bigger tank thow.
