Pics? Seahorses don't bite bait (they feed on zooplankton) and angler fish are a deep sea species (1 km plus).

Lol I caught them by hand not with line and hook I live in Florida now but never mind what I say go on the brooklyn or long island fish club site and ask if its true sea horses and angler fish among other fish not native to those dirty cold waters are caught during the summer.
For decades they have caught them ESP in Fire island NY but even in the dirty Coney Island waters of Brooklyn no less.

This is just one place of MANY in NY people see sea horses but Fire Island in Long Island is the main place by main place I mean you walk around waist deep water among the sea plants (whatever they are called) and you find them.

I am heading there for couple weeks in summer will infact post pics of what I catch with NY signs in background I have NEVER looked for them and not found them .
One guy in Brooklyn fish club (think bio teacher) caught over a hundred .
They are going to die come Fall anyway . He gives them to aquariums, etc and fish club folks

It was probalby just a matter of time before one showed up in the Gulf. I believe they have been found as far north as New York on the east coast.
The anglers are most likely sargassum fish.

Yes thats what I should have said they are the fish found in floating mats of seaweed

yeap infestation there is ive seen a few come up
its a sad sight

im sure he could have got like a dollar or something for that lion but its worth more to him to throw it into the ocean he must be a wild life conservationist lol ..........not

Unless it was dead and floating, you did not catch an angler by hand. There are pipefishes indigenous to Coney Island waters, as I seined some when working at the NYA.
