Little baby Fahaka just not growing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, another month has gone by. No growth. Hes as healthy looking as ever though. Plump, round, happy, active, well fed. At this point though, Im just gonna call him a midget. Either that Lake Turkana talk is dead on, and thats where this guy is from, or hes just tiny. Hes not even that aggressive. I only see him pic on one of the big cats once a week or so, and its really not even aggressive at all. Just a nip and run away. So, I have one mild, midget fahaka.

However, I think at this point im going to start actively looking to trade with someone. Would like an equally healthy fahaka, but one that will grow to size. If anyone is looking for a small, happy, healthy fahaka just let me know. I think this guy would be perfect in a 55-75 gallon planted tank with other dithers. Thats what Id do with him if I was allowed another tank. If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM. Thanks.

If you were in HK i would take him for my 60G... Sounds cool having a midget fahaka...

mine has been slow to grow also, had him for about 8-9months now got him at about 1in from aquatic warehouse.he's now 3-4in. recently ive started soaking his food in vitamins and ive noticed some growth since then. might want to try that

This seems to be a re-occurring thing. Mine is growing really slowly as well. I bout him really small around 1.5 inches and he eats like a beast yet it's been about 4 month and he's only about 3 inches. My last Fahaka was over double this size at the 4-5 month mark. Bad batch? I'm from Toronto

its kinda like this sometimes....

You read that a fahaka max size is USUALLY around 18-20 inches. Now thats like Saying the maximum height for a human is 8 feet tall. Now picture having a kid and "power feeding" the kid because you want to see him be 8 feet tall. The only problem is genetics. Just as most humans were not meant to hit the 8 foot mark, most fahakas are really only likely to top out around 16 inches. Some will get bigger, some smaller.

Yea but at the same time, 4 inches, thatd be like having a 2 ft kid. And this seems to be happening a lot. Maybe its a true sub species in lake turkana. Id be perfectly happy with a 12+ inch fahaka, but I dont see this guy ever making it there.

yeah i'm starting to think mine is a hybrid of some sort. It looks like a fahaka just way smaller. My last 2 fahaka's got to 12 inches in less than a year. It's been roughly 5 months and this guys is only 3.5 inches. Really not interested in a dud, he eats like a champ but I'm not seeing any results 125 gallon tank by himself boring as hell if he doesn't grow.

If anyone has one of these "mini" Fahakas and is willing to sell it please let me know. I think the idea of a Fahaka that is on smaller side but still healthy is pretty cool. OP please don't think I'm trying to "jack" your thread, it just seems as if some people are not interested in one that is not going to grow to the expected monster size and I'd love to get one.
